My list of blog posts that I want to post just keeps getting longer and longer so once I get some more time I’ll post some more. Today I saw two GREAT costumes wandering around campus. Here they are! I hope you enjoy!
and this guy! Jug of Kool-aid in his hand and all! Passing out refreshing drinks to the grounds guys on campus.
Remember that time I started watching the third Harry Potter movie at 11:30 last night? I was only planning on watching a little bit, to be finished another time, but from the moment I started I was spellbound, tricked, enchanted by it’s charms. Here’s another Dumbledore quote worth some pondering
“Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light”
To the surprise of many and as shocking as this might seem, I have officially decided to give Harry Potter a chance. I read the first three books back when I was in high school but never jumped completely on the band wagon. I hadn’t seen any of the movies completely through until last week my mom called and gave me the idea to start a Harry Potter movie marathon. Since then I’ve finished the first two movies. Pretty good! I’ve also decided that I’m going to reread the first three books in Russian during my Christmas holiday break. So the point of this post? Dumbledore has two quotes in these movies that I think are worth considering…
“It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live”
“It is not our abilities that show what we truly are. It is our choices.”
Late last week, I went to lunch with one of my dearest and oldest friends. She is one of those friends that you don’t need to see daily, monthly, or even yearly to maintain the friendship; a card in the back pocket that you always know is there for you. Someone you can always count on. I have been blessed with several of this type of friend. True friends… Thanks Emily! She allowed me to vent and gave some wise and much needed advice. She also showed me this beautiful talk. I would like to share it with you. Please read the entire talk but I would like to share just a few of my favorite quotes.
“At times it may seem that our trials are focused on areas of our lives and parts of our souls with which we seem least able to cope. Since personal growth is an intended outcome of these challenges, it should come as no surprise that the trials can be very personal—almost laser guided to our particular needs or weaknesses.”
“Time after time we see marvelous blessings on the heels of great trials.”
“On a few occasions, I told the Lord that I had surely learned the lessons to be taught and that it wouldn’t be necessary for me to endure any more suffering. Such entreaties seemed to be of no avail, for it was made clear to me that this purifying process of testing was to be endured in the Lord’s time and in the Lord’s own way.”
I got to the library today fully expecting to take a seat and get to work. Well, that’s exactly what I did after I got a good little laugh. I walked up to my chair and as I was pulling it out when I noticed this book sitting on the desk in front of me.
Thank you to whoever conveniently placed this book! I got a good chuckle. I would have never thought that the words A”cute”, childhood, and diarrhea would ever be in the same sentence, let alone on scholarly published book. Laughs…
Went to another concert last night with my brother Devin and his wonderful wife Katie… It was a fun atmosphere with a house show feel. I love the glimpse of perspective given through the music and ideas of local artists. Local shows give me time for pondering and reflection…
1st up… Lady and Gent. Winners of the battle of the bands this last year.
2nd… All the way from some place back East (I forgot where… ha ha) Wes Kirkpatrick
So I just spent the last hour on one of my favorite websites IWasteSoMuchTime.Com while listening to my roommate talk to his new iphone. Yes, not talk ON his new iphone but talk TO his new iphone. There is a new speach recognition thing where you can talk to the phone, ask it questions, have it do stuff, and it will talk back to you. I don’t know what is more pathetic… me looking at this site or him talking TO his new phone. Anyways, here are some of my favorite things from the last little bit on the site…
Someday…
What I say while looking in the mirror on a daily basis, “Brother, you get better looking every day!”
This is sad….
…
I love my parents! I love the home I grew up in! I love my home ward! But this picture does a good job of depicting how I’ve often felt when I’ve had to move back home after living on my own… You just feel a little claustrophobic at times. Spread your wings and fly!
Message to self… “Don’t be afraid anymore”
Oh the blondes…
Why did Bob Marley have to leave?
ha ha… spilled milk… they’re crying!
I did all this while listening to Mumford and Sons…
“Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure or nothing. To keep our faces toward change and behave like free spirits in the presence of fate is strength undefeatable.”
